E3 2006: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
7 Comments Published by ZephyrWest 6 years ago in Games, News, PSP.GameSpot has posted some new info on the much anticipated Metal Gear Solid game for PSP. Today, Kojima Productions revealed Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. This Metal Gear game won’t be using a card based system like Acid does. Instead, it will be using the classic real time neck snapping gameplay Metal Gear Solid has become famous for.
Portable Ops looks like it’ll play just like the console Metal Gear Solid titles, which is exactly what fans have been waiting for. What’s even better is, this game is considered part of the core Metal Gear Solid timeline as defined by Hideo Kojima, so it counts as an installment in the saga of Solid Snake. The game is set in 1970, six years after Snake Eater, and rejoins Naked Snake (nee Big Boss) now that’s split away from the FOX unit. Big Boss is now being charged with treason, and you’ll have to fight your way through any number of heavily guarded compounds and take out a number of renegade FOX agents to prove your innocence.
Sony announces Greatest Hits for North America
1 Comment Published by Dasme 6 years ago in News, PSP.At the pre-E3 conference yesterday Sony has announced that it is bringing it’s Greatest Hits program to the North American market. Looks like you’ll soon be able to pick up a copy of Hot Shots Golf Open Tee, WipeOut Pure, Twisted Metal, ATV Offroad Fury and Ape Escape. Unfortunately Sony didn’t announce the pricepoint for these titles, but I’m assuming that they will be priced in line with the PS2 greatest hits games.
It’s nice to see Sony bringing this program to North America, as it’s a great way to get some good cheap games that you might as missed.

Joystiq has posted an interesting picture for us all to look at. It’s a picture of a “Zoom Shop” they found at an airport. Apparently, its a vending machine that offers some some really neat gadgets including iPods, accessories, Nintendo Game Boys Advance SP’s, and Sony PSP’s. The PSP is sold at $249.99 so there isn’t really any advantage to buying it through a Zoom Shop other than convenience, but it is kind of interesting to see.

GamesAreFun.com reports that Hideo Kojima has announced plans for bring the Metal Gear Solid universe to the PSP on his podcast. The game is scheduled for a Fall 2007 launch date and won’t be a spin-off title like Acid is. This game will be part of the Solid series and won’t be using Acid’s card based gameplay.
According to a translation done by members of GAF, the game will be take place after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3. The story will cover how Big Boss and how he founded Foxhound. Although the game won’t be using Acid’s card system, it won’t be using Solid’s system either. The player will have to control troops and if one of them dies, he will be dead for the rest of the game. At the beginning of battles, the player will have the chance to “bet” his troops. If you decide to surrender before the end of the battle, you will not losing any of your troops. The consequences for losing are still unknown at the moment. Kojima also said that the graphic quality will be on par with its PS2 cousins and that it feature multiplayer wifi. Whether infrastructure play will be available is unknown as well.
