PSP Challenging iPod for PMP Market
Published by Cara Hannesson 2 years, 1 month ago in News, PSP.
Since 2004, the folks over at MP3Newswire have run articles during both the summer and Christmas seasons, searching for a device that could potentially overthrow the iPod as the most popular personal music player. Nothing has come even remotely close to them… until now.
The PSP is ranked as the number two best selling portable digital player, selling one unit to every 2.3 iPods that Apple sells. I know that doesn’t really sound like a huge piece of the PMP market, until you consider just how many iPods are actually sold each and every day. BetaNews puts that number at 100 iPods sold every minute as of the fourth quarter of 2005. Yes, you read that right… that’s 100 iPods every minute!
The PSP has, until now, been mostly excluded from these lists due to it’s primary function as a gaming device.
The PSP’s widescreen offers superior video to the iPod and Sony has sold more UMD movies than Apple has digital movie downloads. True, UMD movies were on the way out after a promising start, but price drops in Japan have led to a huge ten-fold jump in sales, resurrecting the format in Asia. Lower prices would probably do the same in the US, potentially giving Sony a portable movie distribution model to challenge iTunes.
Watch out Apple, Sony is nipping at your heels!

Yes SONY’S FIGHTING BACK. maybe we cant beat the DS but we can beat the iPod
Oh but I thought the psp was dead….. Oh wait it can do a lot more than play games!
This is actually pretty interesting news
haha gg sony! Far from saying Sony has made the best choices, I think that it’s a good thing they realise that by dropping prices they can make much more money, and eventually boost the sadly-dying psp. I love PSPs so I hope this works!!!!
Hello,
What do I have to do, to make an audiobook file appear on the audiobook folder on my iPod?
I didn't get it how does it work.
Is there a special extension for audiobooks, because I've tried to convert to ACC (tutorial on this forum) but it didn't work.
Please, help me.
Thanks
