GT4 LogoPolyphony Digital, the developers behind the infamous Gran Turismo series, has “categorically denied” all reports that they have stopped development for the PSP version of Gran Turismo. Reports from the popular Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, speculated that development for Gran Turismo 4 Mobile was on indefinite hold. However, the developer says that development has not stopped, but their main priority at the moment is a Gran Turismo title for the PlayStation 3.

In fact, we’ve reached the stage where a GT4 equivalent runs on the PSP hardware. However, our main focus at present, is the development and release of a GT title for the PS3 platform.

Once this has been completed, we can return to, and jump-start, development for the PSP version. In regards to release dates and details, we’ll be making further announcement, at a later date.

    “At Present”?

What have they been doing for 2 years?

Yup, this is Sony/Polyphony speak for “it aint never gonna happen”, there will always be another console version to work on, as it is it takes them 4 or 5 years to make each one. It will probably not be untill holiday season 2007 before the PS3 GT Game will be out and then they are going to get back to working on the PS2 version! Yeah right, realistically that would put it out sometime around holiday 2008, is the PSP still going to be a viable platform by then? Its stuggling pretty badly now.

I don’t think they will develop another PS2 game… PS3 is the next generation. They have no reason to develop for a “legecy” console. And it probably won’t take them all that long to finish GT4 Mobile as they already have a working game. The hardwork is done, it’s just a matter of fine tuning it and adding new content.
