Lumines II soundtrack released

Lumines II

Back in the early days of the PSP there was one game that stood out from the pack. The game was hailed as one of the best puzzle games ever made since the advent of Tetris. And with its psychedelic visuals and signature soundtrack, it won several awards for its brilliance. Of coarse, a game of this caliber demands a sequel—so far, it looks hot.

Buena Vista Games announced the game’s soundtrack today. As promised, it will feature music from hit stars such as Black Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani, and Hoobastank. And to keep things interesting, a few Japanese artists will be returning to provide new songs for Lumines II as well such as Mondo Grosso, Techriders, and Ken Ishii.

Artists with songs and videos:

  • Beck–”Black Tambourine”
  • Black Eyed Peas–”Pump It”
  • Chemical Brothers–”Star Guitar”
  • Fatboy Slim–”Gangster Trippin’”
  • The Go! Team–”Bottle Rocket”
  • Gwen Stefani–”Hollaback Girl”
  • Hoobastank–”Born to Lead”
  • Junior Senior–”Take My Time”
  • Missy Elliott–”Lose Control”
  • New Order–TBD

Artists with songs only:

  • Junkie XL–”Breezer”
  • Stigmato Inc–”Reality Check”

I sure hope that the developers include an option to turn this crap on and off–the idea of “hit” music videos running in the background sounds neat at first, but I one can only imagine how quickly it would get on your nerves.

The beauty of the first Lumines was the relaxing music and sound FX, but there’s not one single song on the list above that would be enjoyable for more than one playthrough. I suppose it doesn’t help that I’m not a fan of the music genre(s) they’ve chosen, but I couldn’t imagine anyone being excited to hear any pop / R&B song over and over again, especially when trying to relax to a good puzzle games.

I agree, this sound track looks terrible. I am very dissapointed to see the music that made the original Lumines great get kicked to the side. After seeing this I am sad to say that I probably will not be purchasing Lumines II.
