Firmware 2.71 Released In Japan [update 1]

It looks like PSP Firmware version 2.71 has been stealthily released in Japan and includes the following updates:
- Game demos can now be downloaded from Internet Browser and saved on Memory stick
- Video output can now be displayed correctly when an external tuner is selected in Location Free Player
The firmware is unavailable in the North American or Europe at this time, but it shouldn’t be too much longer before you can snag it.
[update 1]: PSP firmware version 2.71 for North American PSP users is available now via network update and on PlayStation’s update page. European PSP users can grab the update via network update as well or through yourpsp.com.

Demo Downloads?!?! HELL YES! Now we’ll see more for sure!
i wonder if sony will make a psp site for downloads, maybe flash like yourpsp.com?. for shure, well see loads more demo’s :)
Here’s a thing:
I live in the UK and I own a Japanese PSP. I decided to update using the psp’s built in wifi network update function this time, instead of going through yourpsp.com
I ended up with the new firmware (v2.71) as expected, and the new features were as described on yourpsp.com except I’ve also ended up with a new icon under “Network” called “Portable television”, which takes me straight to “P-tv” – the Japanese service that lets you pay for and download jap tv clips direct to your psp (except that I cant work out how to because I dont speak japanese! – a shame in a way, as it appears to be advertising free downloads of world cup highlights, but thats another story…)
I’m assuming it did this because I’ve got a jap psp, so the network update function has directed it to the jap psp firmware’s server.
Thing is, so far we’ve all been under the impression that the network updates are identical across territories. However, I’m willing to bet that the US and EU firmware v2.71 dont include this P-tv feature (I cant test them out on my psp now I’ve updated it using the jap one because if I try to install the EU firmware update over the jap one, it wont do it and tells me there is no need to update as I have the latest system software)
Just thought I’d mention it because if future firmware updates are going to become increasingly tailored to territory, then this may have implications for those of us who have Jap or US psps (such as, do you opt for the firmware update from the same region as your psp to absolutely ensure compatablility, or go for the EU one in case it includes EU specific features?)

I got the update via Network Update as well but my PSP is an EU one. wat does dat mean?

i have a jap psp, and i got the new update which has portable tv on it but its all in jap and i dont understand a thing. are all new updates going to be in jap for my jap psp or was that just an exeption. when the english portable tv comes out in the uk can i get that one so it will be in english?

super saint i got my psp from the uk and downloaded the version 2.71 and its in japanise maybe there will be a new version that will make it english or something or if you no how to make it english please tell me
hey saper, i just imported the japanese psp and i live in the US and i just downloaded the version 2.71! you can download the 2.71 from your psp through the wi-fi, only if you have ur psp connected to a wireless router or go to a website called atraclife.com and from there, download either the japanese or US version depending on what system you have the US or japanese psp!
-you will need a memory stick with 20 mb for the version! you need a folder called (PSP) on ur stick, in the (PSP) folder, a folder called GAME, in the (GAME) folder, a folder called (UPDATE) all the names for the folders must in uppercase and the version 2.71 update will be in the (UPDATE) folder when downloaded!
-its very easy to install, just follow the instruction that comes with the updates for updating! but go to playstation.com if you get lost, they will help! i hope that helped you!!!
