No More Katamari?

1up.com mentions that in an recent interview, Me & My Katamari Producer Toshiya Hara is dropping hints that Me & My Katamari may be the final entry in the already classic series.

“The core concept of the Katamari series was complete from the first game, and we cannot really improve on this. The PSP version was made basically so that the game could be carried around and played on-the-go,” he said. “So for now, this is where we wrap it up.”

I know that we have quite a few hardcore Katamari fans among our readers so I am sure this news is saddening to all. However, considering how series creator Keita Takahashi stated a few months ago that:

“In 10 years time, I am not going to be making games any more. I would like to create a playground for children. A normal playground is flat but I want an undulating one, with bumps.”

It might not be a bad idea to end it while it is good. We have all seen instances where a series goes on far too long (Mega Man anyone?) and it is far better to end on a high note.

Awww…well I really need to get a ps2 now so I can enjoy the other 2 games. I was hoping though that even if they cant change it drasticly they could make it for next gen consoles. They could make big,no,HUGE levels with all kinds of presents. And(though it may sound stupid)I was hoping for a stage where you actually pick up planets and universes and stars.
