Modojo is reporting that iRIVER has announced a new handheld games console to go up against Sony’s PlayStation Portable and Nintendo’s DS as well as pictures of the new device.
The console, called the iRiver G10 features a 4-inch WVGA screen capable of displaying 260K colors, and a sliding-screen design for enhanced portability. The system will run on Windows CE 5.0, and come in 4GB and 8GB capacities.
More information is expected at CES 2006 later this week.

i posted about this on the fourm but i seen it on engadget.
The buttons look unbelievebley uncomfortable..
This is an interesting concept. I think it looks cool, but poor functionality for control. I am curious to see what the later PSP concepts are with a HD will look like. Will they morph into a device like this? One can only wonder.
Im sure these photos are the initial design of the Iriver G10, and hopefully they will sort out this uncomfotable looking games console, but in terms of its the Hard drive and its looks, I think it’s going to be amazing.
Where the PSP is a games console, which can be used for other media, the Iriver, with its reputation, should be a Portable media player that can be used for games, aimed hopefully more towards attracting the non gamers to owing such a device.
I hope that this machine does do well because it would be a very boring world it every one had the same handheld console, i.e. the PSP.
no analog stick…
it looks cool but what lisened series do iRiver have um how about none. That is not for gamers but 4 and 8 gigs sounds good. then again if you want multi media buy an ipod video.
ps. i want ratchet and clanck to come out on the psp
There needs to be diversity when it comes to console gaming, otherwise we are all going to be playing the same thing, so regardless of whether I river have a licenced series, or whether it has an analog stick, does not make it a better or worse console, just different. Today people seem to follow each other, due to brand names and are influenced by mass advertising, regardless of whether there is a cheaper, better product on the market, which I can be guilty of as well.
Im not trying to big up the I River G10, but am simply saying the the PSP is not the only thing out there, and does not set the universal standard for portable gaming.
I think the console looks extremely cool. I own a PSP, I wish thing had a Sony badge and a PlayStation logo, then it would be really cool.
I am half and half wether to buy it or not when it’s released, it’ll be worth it for the meda capabilities alone.
Let’s wait and see eh.
