EA Replacing Defective UMD’s

Gamespot reports that EA is finally replacing the defective Madden 06 UMD’s that went out in September.

The original problem is that players experienced problems with the game’s franchise mode, which caused a “shutdown issue” that forced the PSP to power down. For awhile, EA had been telling people to use a sub-standard work around that was discovered in October, but today they have decided to replace the disks.

The replacement disk has “revised software” that corrects the shutdown issue and in addition, EA will also give customers two coupons. One is a $15 voucher for the online EA Store, and the other is for complimentary shipping on a future order from EA.

To get a fixed UMD of Madden NFL 06, you will need to send in your defective disc, as well as a note containing your Name, Home Address, E-mail Address, and Phone Number, to the following:

EA Customer Warranty
Attn: Madden PSP
209 Redwood Shores Parkway
Redwood City, CA 94065

Keep in mind that it may take up to 10 business days to be delivered.

In my opinion, this is what EA should have done in the first place. One thing that I am wondering is if the new UMD will require firmware 2.5 to play.
