Datel WiFi Max for PSP

CodeJunkies has released the WiFi Max which is essentially a USB-based WiFi access point.

At last, you can connect your PSP to the internet easily, cheaply and WIRELESSLY! With WiFi MAX, a whole world of online gaming is opened, and you can also manage your files and surf the net from almost anywhere in the house.

WiFi MAX for PSP couldn’t be simpler to use. Just plug your USB WiFi dongle into your internet-enabled PC to create a Wireless Access Point. You can then connect to the internet and play online-enabled multiplayer games with PSP gamers from all over the world. Just the thing if you don’t have a wireless router! Best of all, WiFi MAX supports up to five local’ PSP gamers at a time, so you and your mates can all play online at once!

As well as multiplayer games, WiFi MAX also lets you organise your media files and download them to your PC using our exclusive MAX Media Server software. Transfer MP3s, images and video files from your PC to your PSP from anywhere that’s within range of your new WiFi network. As it operates on the Wireless G standard, it’s five times faster than an ordinary WiFi connection, and if you use our USB cable and dongle stand (supplied), you can position your dongle to maximise your effective WiFi range.

If you have other WiFi-enabled devices capable of using the internet, such as laptops or PDAs, you can take them online with WiFi MAX too. It’s the ultimate device for internet surfing without a WiFi router!

- Internet gaming through any internet-enabled PC.
- No cables necessary make a wireless connection.
- Organise your files, and convert videos into a PSP-friendly format.
- Five times faster than standard WiFi.
- Suppled with software CD and WiFi dongle, and also a USB cable and stand for optimal positioning.

I am honestly not sure how I feel about this product. Engadget brings up the following interesting point:

…there doesnt seem to be much info about what kind of security or other capabilities you get on the access point youve just created.

The device retails at $39.99 (US) or $29.99 (UK). You can get a good 802.11G WiFi Router with ports for around $50-$60 (US) which features far more functionality. Admittedly, the WiFi Max seems to be more useful when it comes to portability and ease of use, but it seems to me that a standard router would be far better.

I might have to get one and test it out myself just to see if it is worth the price.

I bought this but cannot get it to work with my PSP. The PSP picks up the WiFi Dongle but when it attempts to get the IP Address of it, the operation times out. I have tried everything I can think of and phones the unhelpful technical support. Can anyone help?

    Hey Dasme.

Will this work on my Mac OS X 10.3.9 ? I emailed Datel and Codejunkies. They ain’t responding. I’m pretty sure you know so…

    Will it work? :)

    Hello Folks,

Right my dongle has finally arrived in the post and I am now connected to the Nintendo Wi-Fi network. Now for some connecting is simple, just plug in the dongle, install the drivers and away you go. Well sadly, that was not my experience. What I’m about to write here are for those that may try and connect using a Datel Wi-Fi Max dongle (it may apply to the official Nintendo dongle as well in some circumstances) and ZoneAlarm Security suite.

First of all install the dongle drivers from the CD, insert the dongle into a free USB port, that’s step number 1.

Step number 2, run the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi max program and click auto setup, this option will automatically setup the Wi-Fi Max settings. Next go to your internet connection properties and make sure that the ‘allow other network users to connect through this internet connection’ is ticked. If this option is not ticked then your WiFi dongle will not be able to connect to the internet.

Step number 3, at this point you have to reconfigure Zonealarm. First of all on your main Zone Alarm menu screen select the program controls tab, make sure that the Generic Host Process for Win32 servers is allowed to act as a server.

Step Number 4, click on the firewall tab in Zone Alarm, then click on advanced settings. Select the option, ‘this computer is an ICS/NAT gateway’ and enter into the local address box your main I.P address, not your dongles I.P.

Jonah, since you have one I hope you can answer a question for me. They’re selling two different versions on Play-Asia, and I have both a PSP and a Nintendo DS. Does it really matter which one you buy? Since they mention you can use it with other devices like PDAs, I hope that it will work for both the PSP and the DS.

I’m hoping you can test this theory if you have both devices, or perhaps since you have a DS you might have a friend/relative who has a PSP and can see if they can use the Nintendo DS version you purchased.

    Thanks!

  5. 5 sid

Pocketgoddess, it don’t matter which one you buy as it works with both the nintendo DS and the PSP (I have both) and the supplied software allows you to install either version or both…

  8. 8 Sid

Have you done what Jonah said here ” go to your Internet connection properties and make sure that the ‘allow other network users to connect through this internet connection’ is ticked. If this option is not ticked then your WiFi dongle will not be able to connect to the internet”.

  9. 9 optimisery

  11. 11 Fantom

I am trying to connect my DS, I have my first network connect my wifes pc to mine, and if I select allow other internet user, it disabled my wifes conection, and still it does not work. Any ideas would be wonderful

  16. 16 Likwit_Snake

Same problem here… time out connecting to ip-adress. The wifi connection on my pc also says no or bad connection. Anyone knows how to solve this please?????

  17. 17 Andy S

Intresting comments there !!! I have one of these wifi max gadgets!! I have it all installed according to the manual, but its connected, sending out packets, but got no SIGNAL!!!!! Any ideas how to get a signal on it????? Tried emailing codejunkies….4 days later ..still waiting reply!!

  18. 18 glob

This is really fustrating. My PSP won’t pick up any IP address and times out.

  19. 19 Fred

For Limited or no connection error you could try -
Double click the Wireless Network Connection icon and select PROPERTIES then “Wireless Networks” from the top then put the tick on in the “Use windows to configure wireless
    network settings”.

  20. 20 Andy S

I have tried all that! Nothing happening. Im using a USB modem.
Geeeez what a headache this is…………….

  21. 21 glob

i know what to do for no ip address, This is for XP users only.

    go to start>control panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network Connections>
then chooes which modem you are using for you internet>right click>Properties>advanced the check the box saying allow other users to connect through this computer.

    That should work

  22. 22 Andy S

Thats all done to… Been throught it all. Got reply from codejunkies, they say its not compatiable with my modem!! So have to send it back now!!

  23. 23 glob

take it out and plug it in again, just have a fiddle about with it until it says it is connected in network connections.

  24. 24 glob

have a look on the properties of your internet using the guide i put up above and make sure that you select which connection you would like to share it with

  25. 25 Andy S

Same problem as i have had Duane!!! I emailed code junkies for days trying to sort this, open your psp wifi software, in the middle is “options”, click on that then “change wifi”, see that your modem is in there! I have done all this and now they said its not compatable with my modem!!
try emailing them on … support@codejunkies.com..

  26. 26 Egg

I have a Speedtouch USB modem and it all works fine.

  27. 27 Andy S

I have the Speedtouch USB modem too. Couldnt get mine to work!

  28. 28 sam p

hi i got mine to work but then after 5 mins i stoped and now it cant find the ip adress please help!

  29. 29 Chrinkster

Mine says connected to access point but unable to connect to server, pls can any1 help?

  30. 30 Chrinkster

But im using a DS,datel say its the same problem.I think i shud have jus bought the official wifi.too much trouble.

  31. 31 Fluff

    Chrinkster-
Once Windows is set Correctly (especially if you “can” connect to the access point)have you then tried going to the NDS WIFI Max.lnk and check you have no writing in red and if there was any did you try pressing Autosetup ? the same applys for the PSP WIFI Max Media Manager.lnk……

Maybe if people say what version of windows they can’t get it to work on may help …

  32. 32 Lee Thompson

Seems like I’m having the same problem as everyone else - I find the signal but when I test the connection it won’t locate the IP address. I’ve shared my internet connection, bridged to the correct modem and everything else on the website but no luck. When I check my wireless connection it states the connection is good - I can see data being received but nothing is being sent back to the PSP. Anyone any ideas as Datel just keep churning out the same rubbish that’s on their website - what a waste of cash!

  33. 33 Chrinkster

Finaly, ive fixed it.I actualy got the help from nintendo. All i did was share my internet service providerS CONNECTION(AOL),NOT MY LAN CONNECTION ,I REPEAT NOT MY CONNECTION(or ROUTER OR USB MODEM ect)It should work after that.

  34. 34 Darny

TNX SO MUCH!!! it helped, ive been playin wifi for quite a while, mario kart rules.

  35. 35 Hans Anderson

Chrinkster, if you look at Jonah’s post he said that in the first place “Next go to your internet connection properties and make sure that the ‘allow other network users to connect through this internet connection’ is ticked…. Internet Connection properties IS your service providers connection otherwise he would of said “LAN CONNECTION, ROUTER OR USB MODEM”………….

  36. 36 Lee Thompson

Let me check I’ve done this right cos it’s still not working - from ‘control panel’ go to ‘network connections’ - I’ve selected my local area connection gone into ‘properties’ gone to ‘advanced’ then ticked ‘allow other network users to connect through this internet connection’. When I did this it showed my wireless connection as being connected but the request for ISP address still times out. When I go into the status box for my wireless connection it shows data being received byt none is being sent back.

  37. 37 qwewr

Lee thompson,(not local connection) you go to the company who supplies your internet connections icon and from there Right click on PROPERTIES then ADVANCED then allow others to connect…
So if PIPEX is your internet provider and you have their supplied speedtouch modem you would Rightclick on their Speedtouch Connection icon and set it there……

The twin monitor icon that shows your connection speed in the bottom right of the taskbar will show you what connection you need to set on when you hold the mouse pointer over it (usally top line of info)….

  38. 38 Lee Thompson

I’m with Blueyonder via Telewest Broadband and there is no icon on my PC for either of these

  39. 39 Duane

Well it seems as if i’ve got mine setup for my psp correctly as i can connect to the internet on my psp, the only problem is it connects for about 2 minutes, then disconnects me and when i try connect again it says ‘access point cannot be found’. I really am frustrated now as i get so close, anyone have any idea why it will connect momentarily and then won’t even find the access point? Any help would be appreciated.

  40. 40 conquer001

So, folks! Just a question for those who managed to make the WifiMAX work, or not.
Question 1: What Operating System are you currently using?

    AND

Question 2: If you are using Windows XP Professional, are you using Service Pack 1 or 2?

Thanks folks! And please do indicate whether your WifiMAX component works or not. :)

  41. 41 Duane

im using windows xp with service pack 2, wifi max seems to work fine but the psp will not see it as an access point each time.

  42. 42 andy

yer i got same prob here go o this site it tells uwhat dsn to put in

  43. 43 andy
  44. 44 David

I have a windows XP, service pack 2, and I have telewest broadband/blueyonder. I also have a wireless router linking this computer to a laptop. However this router is not compatible. Every time i try and hook up my ds to the internet it finds the connection, then when it tests, it displays ERROR 51300 i think, anyway the message is “cannot obtain IP address”.

PLEASE HELP ME I DONT WANT TO HAVE WASTED MY MONEY ON THIS THING!

  45. 45 dav

David, do you mean you are trying to run the WIFI and “another” wireless connection from the same PC ??…………..

  46. 46 David

yes, but that shouldn’t stop it doing anything

  47. 47 dav

The Datel WIFI will run your “laptop” as well as the DS so maybe you should try the WIFI only and disable any other wireless connections to rule out conflicts……..

  48. 48 Chrinkster

What the problem was with me was that i shared the connection with Local Area Connextion 3 instead of my ISP.I should have read it carefully.lol.

  49. 49 Lee Thompson

David - I have the same set up as you and have spent hours trying to get this thing to work. Datel are hopeless and constantly keep sending me the same info. I’d be interested if you get this to work as I’m ready for using it as an a**e scratcher!

  50. 50 stevo

I am just installing the software for PSP wifi max. I selected the Apache server option which then requests details of my server address and the administrators email address etc. It doesn’t allow me to proceed without the fields being completed. What should I enter?

  51. 51 andy

wifi max is shit it only works when it wants 2

  52. 52 Dan Hayman

Hey I just got my WiFi Max and it worked for about 5 minutes then I tried to connect to it again and Obtaining the IP Address just times out. I’ve already gone onto control panel then Network Connection and all that.
It would be highly appreciated if you could help me.
    Thanks a lot
    Dan

  53. 53 Lee Thompson

Not just me then - Datel have now sent me the same info for a 3rd time - quality support eh!

  54. 54 Dan Hayman

I think I know whats wrong with my connection now.
My Wireless Internet Connection has “Limited or no connectivity”
Please tell me how to get connectivity please!
Yeah Ive already emailed datel so Ill be expecting all the same information.

  55. 55 Lee Thompson

I got around this problem by sharing the internet connection - although that’s as far as I got as I cam up against the IP address problem after that

  56. 56 zaheer

i have a psp and the isp
doesnt time out but it says DNS error
    please help

  57. 57 Guillaume

    This LINK should help!

Althoug, if the device you’re using to connect to the internet doesn’t show up in the ZDWlan Bridge section, then I am not sure what can be done.

    G*

  58. 58 Lee Thompson

Yeah that’s what codejunkies keep sending - still no progress though. Has anyone used their rip off £1 per minute line? I’m tempted to call to finally resolve my problem but the call will probably cost more than the max drive.

  59. 59 Lee Thompson

    Sorry I meant Wifi Max

  60. 60 Ginge

I have found what to do for no connection/limioted connection

    right click>repair

then when its nearly done it, close the window. if it still says limited/no connectivity, re-connect to the internet, if it still dosn’t work, i have no idea.

  61. 61 Ginge

oh and by the way, i am not using Apache or anything. I just didn’t instal a server.

  64. 64 Gary Trouve

    Hello,

I am using windows 98 second edition, i have a motorola speedtouch usb adsl cable and my only problem is that i cannot find the modem in the bridge section. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I have tried to contact datel but still no reply. The message i am getting is ‘ip address timed out’, i am guessing because there is no bridge. I will be happy to help anyone elso with other needs.

    Regards, Gary.

  65. 65 Chrismitchell

To Get past the ip, clicl on your wireless connection setongs, click on the tab support and click details.
Then on your psp go on custom, and submit your ip address found on details.

  66. 66 bundun

thank you jonah for your guide. very helpful

  67. 67 philliprodgers

what do you put in ‘network domain’, and ‘administrators email’?

  68. 68 Stu

I have the same problems as most people in the threads above do.I keep getting an ip cannot be obtained error with this code 80410507.Then my psp will not even detect the access point on the second attempt and i have to remove the dongle and reboot to get the access point to connect to the psp only to recieve ip cannot be obtained error again. When it loses its connection and cannot find the access point the tx reading is 0 on the software (zdwlan).I am using a router and i have disabled dhcp and also made sure that its bridged to the right nic card.I have tried it with a Win xp pro machine i have and also a WIN98 SE machine but both do the same thing.Anyone got any advice they can offer before i send the f**ker back and get a refund. Its gone 3am GMT and i still up bashing away @ this i wont let it beat me.Cheers

  69. 69 Stu

It beat me i am sending it back its a waste of money and a waste of my time. Will just buy a £35 d-link access point instead i should have done that in the first place.I am keeping a backup of the wifi max media software that will come in handy with my usb cable but they can stick the rest of the package up there a*se its sh*te.If anybody reads these threads before buying one then look and learn like i should have done or you might just be loaning your cash out to a company before you get a refund coz thats most likely what the end result will be.

  70. 70 asdas

Stu, The WIFI max which can handle your PSP, DS , PDA and laptop from it’s connection so why are you trying to run another wireless connection from the same point ?.

If anybody reads these threads before buying one then look and learn, lf you don’t understand how to set up a connection properly then it’s proberly best that you get someone who can do it properly for you……………

  71. 71 A badworkman always blames his tools

STU, whay are you trying to run “TWO” wireless connections from the same PC ????????

  72. 72 Lee Thompson

The whole point of wifi max is that it’s supposed to be straight forward - If I knew how to set up a wireless connection I’d have spent a few extra quid. I wouldn’t mind if codemasters offered any proper help instead of just churning out the same solutions each time - they can’t even read my emails!

  73. 73 mellowmellow

    Hi there,
I have hack my DS to be able to play homebrew. I can’t get my WIFI to work, is this caused by the hack that I did?

I manage to connect my PSP online, but I couldn’t find anyone to play with me! This is suck! No game! But I can’t even detect my DS connecting to my WIFI max. I wonder why.

Anyone have a solution for me?

    Thanks,

  74. 74 Will

    hi all

I had a problem with ‘obtaining the IP address’ on my PSP and i have been reading this for help, and i (atlast) managed to get my WiFi MAX to help, so thanks so much to everyone who helped!

Im using speedtouch and i think thats where the problems are mostly, so ill TRY to share with anyone who still cant connect how i did it, i know how frustrating it is lol!

    1. First i set my IP on my WiFi dongle to 192.168.0.1 and my subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and i put my preferred DNS server to 61.171.70.72

    2. I went into the LAN connection and put ‘aquire IP automatically’ and turned the ‘allow other users to connect using this connection’ (or something like that) on.

    3. I repaired my WiFi connection using right click ‘repair’

    4. I searched for a dongle and called my connection ‘connection 1′. On network, i set my PSP to address custom, IP automatic and DNS manual and entered 61.171.70.72 and searched for the connection. Save ‘connection 1′ and test the connection. it found the IP but couldnt connect to the internet.

    5. change the speedtouch to ‘allow other users to connect using this connection’ and searched on my PSP using ‘connection 1′.

The reason why it worked i think is because the WiFi needed the LAN to be shared to aquire the IP address, then it needs the speedtouch router to be shared to connect to the internet, obviously. I hope this helps anyone and good luck!

  75. 75 mellowmellow

    Hi there,
I already manage to connect my PSP to my computer and it’s connected to the internet. But When I start my burnout (game), it did not connect to the net instead it’s searching for a connection around me.

It didn’t connect to the WIFI max. =(

    Oh man, it’s so frustating.

  76. 76 mellowmellow

    EH my NDS is working
I just now, it can only play Mario Kart, Prime Hunters (metroid), Animal Crossing and one more…aarggg I ….ooh! Tony Hawk… I was forgot before =P

I play mario kart without a problem.

Mail me for the setting I’ll let u know.
    Cheers,

  77. 77 mike

does the nintendo usb adapter work with the psp

  78. 78 Gabby

WiFi Max dongle appears to not work with Mac.

My wife bought this on the off chance that it might work on our G4 running OSX 10.3. but it simply doesn’t recognise there is any hardware plugged into the USB ports.

I think it would work if someone at Datel had the sense to build a driver for Macintosh, and it would have been helpful to maybe say that it would only work on Windows based PC’s on the packaging/descriptions.

Looks like us Mac owners will have to shell out substantially more cash to hook up PSP’s to wifi!

  79. 79 RIPSTER

I NOW KNOW WHY THEY ENCLOSED THAT TIDY LENGTH OF DONGLE…..TO FKIN HANG YOUSELF AFTER A FEW HOURS OF SHEER HELL.

    Does anyone have AOL ?
If they do and thier nds wifi max is working then plz help me !!!!!

  81. 81 owen101

I had the same problem (could not get IP address) connecting my Datel WiFi Max to my DS. I have a wireless router already but was not compatible (Netopia 3347NWG - too fast).

    first (XP home edition):

    control panel/network connections
    double click wireless network connection
    click properties
    advanced
enable ‘Allow other network users to connect through internet connection. select the wireless connection of the WiFi max dongle (in this case Wireless Network Connection2)in the dropdown.
    click ok.

After a minute or two that should fix the ‘limited or no conectivity’ problem.

    DS settings:

    WEP key - enabled.
auto obtain ip address - no
ip address - I added ‘10′ to the ip address of the WiFi max dongle in this case 192.168.0.11
    subnet - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 192.168.0.1 (Important. The ip address of the Wifi max dongle)
    auto obtain dns - no
primary - the dns address given in the config page of the Netopia 3347NWG.
    secondary - as above.

After doing all that the DS connected instantly and having no problems since. playing mario kart.

Has to be said hardly the user-friendly experience I was expecting.

    owen101

  82. 82 owen101

sorry spoke too soon, keeps disconnecting after 2 races. This is exactly what happens if I just connect the DS directly to the router so no better off with the Wifi max dongle.

Is there anyway of limiting the transmission speed of the dongle?

    thanks

  83. 83 owen101

    V strange.

Re-installed the Wifi dongle (but this time with it plugged into the laptop during the driver install) and have just been online for an hour without dropping connection once. Same settings as above but with a 64-bit (10 character) WEP key instead of a 128-bit.

Was worth the grief, MK is a cracker of an online multiplayer game. Pity there’s no post race chat or taunting tho.

How come we are not hearing more about these connection problems in the media?

  84. 84 Lee Thompson

I’ve tried leaving 2 negative reviews on Datel’s website yet they refuse to post them - they obviously only post the glowing ones (wonder where they came from)

  85. 85 Johnny

how do you find your Primary and secondary DNS on windows xp?

  86. 86 hux

i got this dongle installed it and shared it it connects on my computer but on my psp i get a ds error this fings fukin shite fukin waste of shittin cuntin money

  88. 88 George

    Hello,

Does anyone else have the problem that the computer altogether doesn’t detect the device? I installed the program for it, but when I opened up the media manager program, it still tells me to put the dongle in the USB port even though it’s already in there. Please help!!! Thanks.

  89. 89 Shamrock

    Try switching usb ports

  90. 90 George

I tried. Even tried on 2 diff comps. Any other suggestions?

  91. 91 Shamrock

    Re-instal and restart your comp

  92. 92 George

Tried that, too. Thanks for the suggestions, though. Right now, I’m thinking it has something to do with the driver. When I put the dongle in there, the driver installation wizard isn’t able to find a driver, so it doesn’t install it. I currently have Windows XP Home Edition, and it doesn’t seem like there’s a driver for it in the CD that came with the dongle. Do you know where I can find a driver for the dongle?

After reading all the problems people are having with thier PSP WIFI connections I feel a less stupid…! I have spent hours trying to figure out what is going on.. Many of the problems I am having seem to be pissing alot of other people off!!! .

I am using a PC windows xp home

When my WIFI is connected I get the message “connection has limited or no connectivity” What can I do to fix this problem??? I tried checking the box allowing other network users to connect to the internet connection in Netwok connections. This still does not help. I tried turning off my Firewall nada reinstalling the driver bla bla bla.. NO LUCK and lots of wasted time!!!!!

My PSP ALWAYS gets a connection error as it attempts to obtain the IP address!!!! Any more tips out there for me. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!! nacman68@hotmail.com

I am very frustrated with this overpriced gizmo. It should not be put on the market if it has so many problems with it!!! SHAME on the company for their crap service and product!!!!!!

  98. 98 emissary

My Datel usb adapter works fine.

Problems i seem to have discovered though

1)must give your ds/psp static ip adress so you can let it through the firewall of your pc
2)if your wireless router doesnt work with the ds or psp then the datel usb is doubtfully going to work as its going still going through the router all be it as a wired signal now. (dont ask me why)
3)My datel usb adapter quite often says limited or no connectivity but still work fine when i connect to it via my ds

It does work fine though. I’ve never had to tick ” allow other computer to connect through this connection”

Its has a really good range and I’ve never had any problems with it since giving my ds a static I.P. It is a really top class product as it can act as a usb station as well, so your getting two for the price of one, An access point and a station.

  99. 99 John

hey man this is really fusturating well how do u change the IP adress of the Wifi Max dongle because i keep getting the error message like everybody else its saying a connection error has occure. the attempt ro obtain the IP adress timed out. dang i really need help i tried everythng i can think about so i just need to noe how to change the Ip adress of the Dongle

  100. 100 John

hey emissary can u help me how did urs work well i have a PSP and u said domthing about setting a static IP to ur DS so how can i do that to my PSP?

  101. 101 emissary

i am not sure how to do it on a psp sorry, should be in your instructions somewhere

to give the wifi max dongle a static I.P you have to go into network connections and then right click the wireless connection for the dongle. Click properties and then click internet protcol (tcp/ip) then click properties again. A screen will come up and here you can click on “use following I.P. address” and then look at your routers settings to add an I.P. address to the wifi max outside of your DHCP range (very important). then add the I.P. you gave to the wifi max to the trusted zone of your firewall, and possibly even your routers firewall aswell. then open up all your UDP and TCP ports on your router just for the static I.P. of the DS/PSP (make sure you get this right or you will get hacked to hell) Past this i cannot help.

Oh, one more point if your PC connects to a wireless router via wifi and your trying to connect the wifi max up to this pc , it probably wont work. The computer your using the wifi max on has to have a wired connection.

past this info I cant help sorry. It works great on my xp sp2. I’m using zonealarm free as the firewall on my pc.

I’m reading this back in its very complex , sorry.

  102. 102 emissary

just as a side note, I didnt really notice a difference when giving a static I.P. to the wifi max, I only got a postive outcome when i gave a static I.P. to the DS. your problems sound either firewall related or router related. the ds must be allowed all access to the internet so open all ports for it (hence the static I.P. for the DS outside the DHCP range of your router so your DS is totally unrestricted on the net but everything else is protected)

Hope you guys get it fixed, its a great product once its working,

I was ready to smash my wifi up the the wall, i thought i must be a right thicky not
being able to work it out.
But after reading all the comments on here, its cheered me up no end especially the one about using the cable to hang your self with lol.
Ive got a dvd rom from a mate with loads of psp programmes on psp web browsing and
ipsp for windows i’ll let you know if there of any help cheers

  105. 105 March 2006

Zone alarm free users, try putting ALL FOUR options to allow(ticks) in the PROGRAM CONTROL Generic HOST Processes I found that in mine the last one was preset to question mark but didn’t ask me permission it was just blocking the WIFI (giving the limited or no connectivity) so I put allow on all four boxes and the problem was sorted……………………

  106. 106 owen101

re emissary & “computer your using the wifi max on has to have a wired connection”.

Thats incorrect as MK always froze after 2 races connecting the DS to the wireless router directly (Netopia 3347NWG).

No more freezes after connecting to the wifi max (running on a laptop connected wirelessly to the Netopia router.

  107. 107 toby

Don’t know if this will help anyone but i had dns error when i tried to load web page. Turns out the that either psp or wifi max dongle will not work with AOL, cos aol force you to use their own software to connect to the web that has some weird effect on things. I finally found a way round it by using a proxy server. you can download the free server that i used at http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm
Here’s what worked for me -Go to control panel/ network connections. (I’m using windows XP) right click over the modem you use to connect to the internet and view its status. click on support tab and make a note of the IP address. close control panel windows. also get the wifi max up and running (make sure windows firewall is switched off for now - you can do this in network connections window if u want.) Now get the psp and go to its network settings. set up new connection, scan for the wifi max. when you get to address settings select custom. select automatic for IP address settings, automatic for DNS setting. Choose ‘Use’ for Proxy server. In proxy server part, enter the IP address you noted down earlier, and in the port section enter 6588. then move on to end and save settings. On your PC connect to web using aol and also launch the proxy server software (it will appear as little green icon at bottom of screen). Now test you internet connection on psp and to my insurmountable joy i found it succeeded. this at least was how i got round the final problem of getting the thing to work with bloody AOL. hope it helps anyone else using AOL and getting the same dns 80410410 server connection error that goaded me for days.

  109. 109 Ed

by the way find the proxy server mentioned above works for surfing the web but haven’t tested it for online gaming so don’t know if proxy server will support online gaming. hope it does!

    Hi Ed
thanks for the help with AOL but im having problems when i try connecting to the internet now on my psp the internet connection still comes back as failed
do u have to configue anything out in ‘proxy’ or in internet options.
when i did try loading a webpage i got an error 80431064
    thanks in advance

  111. 111 Toby

Hi Ed, thanks for your help so far with the AOL problem
but i still cannot connect it says that it cannot connect to the internet. Are there any options or configurations you have to put into internet options or in ‘proxy’?
how did you know what port to use?
if it helps the error i got when i tried loading a page was 80431064
    Thanks, Toby

  112. 112 Toby

i just got rid of that previous error, now im getting a server error
    8001006F
any ideas what this may be?
    Cheers

  113. 113 Boots

If you switched off the windows firewall try also turning off the neccesary hidden settings i.e right click on your internet connection then click change Windows firewall settings then click Advanced then look at the Network connection settings you should be able to see from there if you need to change anything……………………

  114. 114 ericchen

how do you make it work with win 98 second edition

  115. 115 ICEBERG

IAM having the same problem the ip address and time out.this thing is crap.i called the rep and they couldnt help me.

  116. 116 Ed

i actually had to run network setup wizard in control panel before wifi max would work with computer and find ip address. Make sure you select option ‘This computer connects directly to internet. The other computers on my network connect to internet throuigh this computer.’ Then next step choose your internet connection/modem and then just follow steps (make sure your wifi max is plugged in and running (having chosen access point in zdlan programme) before running network wizard.
Then i just made sure all firewalls were turned off and i’d done everything else mentioned on this forum like the sharing bit. that’s when i found problem with aol and used the proxy server (the 6588 number was just the one given in the readme file for the proxy server), make sure proxy server and aol programme are running and it finally all came togther and worked. By the way the proxy server only needed cos i’m on AOL cos apparently the AOL software doesn’t allow sharing. i guess its all a matter of fiddling around till stupid thing decides to work. It will work eventually!

  117. 117 Toby

thanks alot ed, ive got it all working as a matter of fact this reply is using my psp xD,
my biggest tip for anyone: dont give up it will work in the end, it does seem fustrating at times but just come on this forum i will be willing to help anyone who has problems.

Thanks for your help Ed , i have made some progress now. First of all i started with the DNS errors but now thanks to reading this article i have internet access, again well done ED.However what i really bought the wi-fi max for was infrastructure gaming , unfortunately this doesnt work for gaming ive tried connecting to socom but it keeps coming up server could not be found….so any suggestions for configuring so i can play online games would be appreciated

oh by the way id just like to add AOL customer support is appalling so just remember that if u decide to switch ISP’S

  122. 122 Barry

Id just like to give a progress report ,

After a lengthy drawn out afternoon in front of the computer trying to sort this damn thing out , ive given up …..Been on live help chat on Aol for what seems like eternity telling them that the reason my wi fi (for games) doesnt work is down to them , of course they denied it , saying it was something to do with Sony (which of course we know is all bollocks ,they are just trying to shift the blame) i know for a fact wi-fi max works (a mate has a connection running through tiscali) just not with Aol at the time being …Anyway to stop me waffling and to cut a long story short all these arguments ending up with me telling them to stuff their connection and phone up the member services helpline and ask for my mac code (something u need to change your ISP) to which there was an immediate climbdown and i was offered a platinum package upgrade with a free wireless router !

So there is no way of setting up wi-fi max through Aol with adsl connection ,during one of the arguments with a chap from live help i was told that Aol uses dynamic IP adress instead of Static which apparently u need a static (fixed) connection to play wi-fi , i ll let u know how i get on with the router.

  123. 123 Lee Thompson

Not just AOL mate - Telewest won’t work either - still, the support from Datel is Dog Sh*t. Something should be done

Peopl with Trouble getting IP Address, DNS Errors, AOL Problems or anything of that sort. I had all those problems at different times, i fixed some by screwing up my computer, but all them went away and i now am using msn messenger on my psp and all that good stuff.

Bridge your local LAN netork connection and your Wireless connection together by highlighting the two of them, right click and select Bridge Connection.
This will solve alot of problems you might be having. After bridging your connections, run ZDWlan and you should get a Connection Availiable notification icon, if not then try connecting with your PSP anyway, it may just not have registered with your computer but you still may have a connection! Also make sure you have your Local LAN connection selected as your bridge adapter in the ZDWlan software.

I hope this helps some of you.

  151. 151 Nick

i bought this thing at hmv. i put the disc in the pc, but the pc wouldnt read it. im not sure why. i took it back in case of a faulty disc, and the second one i got had the same problem. i just thought this is never going to work, so i traded it in for gran turismo 4 (good game btw, worth buying, coming out on psp end of this year). And just now, all the stuff you need 4 it to work is on the internet. Rather annoyed about that! oh welly well well. I might go and get it again. with all the useful info above, im sure ill work out to use it :)

  152. 152 Big K

Superb little device, as it also works as a receiver. Highly recommended.
