Please note that this WILL void your warranty as it requires you to take the PSP apart. If anyone does try this, I would be interested in their results.
I found this site after being frustrated with trying to get diagnals from my D-pad. I bit the bullet and followed his instructions. It is pretty simple to follow and the results are amazing. It’s like a new D-Pad. It does void your warranty, but here’s a tip: Be very gentle in removing the sticker. Try not to mangle it. It may have a few lighter areas now that say void, but a black magic marker to the sticky side will take care of those. Place the label back afterwords and the chances of anyone knowing that it was moved are slim to none ;-)
you can use a hair dryer to get the sticker off. i did this to get the stickers off my ps2 and psp and they were both immaculate.

I bought a pre-made kit for this fix and installed it yesterday. It works amazing, it feels like a brand new system! Now I’m hitting diagonals like a pro, and you can’t even tell it’s a mod.
I’m not a technical person so am not willing to try this, but my down button on the d-pad wont work unless held down (tapping doesn’t work) it drives the hell out of me. Anyone else had this sort of problem ?

When i upgraded my PSP to the new version 2.81 it didn’t want to install and it froze to then i had to turn it off by taking off the battery pack but when i put it back the light show’s but the the screen doesn’t light up it stay all black without a sound to it….
Sorry Dionisio but, you bricked your PSP. Your best bet is to take it back. Sorry man!
FYI: Dont take the battery out in the middle of an update!
hey josh, i tried and the psp wont accomodate a ps2 dpad, the lcd screen gets in the way.
try it if you dont beleive me, but trust me. with a ps2 dpad in you will not be able to use the right direction of the dpad
i beleive you, i just heard from another site that they are the same.
oh well, i seem to have found a temp solution for it anyway.
i wish the psp had another analog stcik aswell (for the right)
hi, i took mine apart and my right direction button didnt work, so i took it out of the casing and added sum glue on the back to act as a kind of extension, it just wasnt hiting the sensor undernath, it wokred gr8, next thing i new i laoded a game and my charector was spining around as tho i was using the analog, but i wanst, so i took apart and lookd around and found the sensor, i fildled around turned it bak on and MY SCREEN WAS BLACK, it wasnt bricked tho as i could hear everything going on like msuic and stuff. ANY ONE have any ideas please?
jamie using glue on one side of the d-pad was probably not the best idea in the world cos it adds weight, might need a new d-pad or glue the other sides – as for black screen im sorry i cant help you there – if you didnt open it up you could of gotten it fixed – try psptree.co.uk it is good for psp repairs
im not worried about weight, atleast i got it working again (the d pad that is), but im still fuked wid the screen, but i searched hard and a found a site that sells psp warinty stickers, so i could be in luck :)

the spinning around analogue thing is due to the screw behind the analogue (the one directly behind home key) isnt tightened enough
as for the black screen
i think you may have dislodged the connector
haha suckers, i took ma psp into game station where i baught it from, told em that the screen didnt work, they gave me new 1 and when i was out of shop , they shouted ‘come back u have void’ the warrenty, so i leged it and went home ahahha

what you saw was that dual shock analogue is compatible with psp setup
but you need to do some sanding
the connection points at the bottom are identicle

Alex, i’m so sorry mate….but you’ve bricked your psp
all is not lost though.
you’ll need to get yourself an undiluted platinum mod-chip
then flash your NAND memory using the recovery epsilon firmware on the mod-chip (be sure you dont have TA-082 PSP board first (if you can see IC-1003 in the UMD bay, then you have TA-082 and cannot be modded)
and for the future
NEVER TAKE THE BATTERY OUT DURING AN UPDATE
always wait for it to switch itself off…no matter how long it takes and always update with AC power connected and batt over 66%

if nothing comes up on the screen then its a brick….check inside the UMD bay for the number code IC-1003
if you dont see this then you can buy a undiluted platinum modchip and “un-brick” it
the mod has a copy of a PSP NAND firmware, with it you can flash the original NAND back to life.

it makes it difficult when you have to translate but i think this is the general idea of it

Ive had my psp for quite some time now and never had a problem, well the other night I was playing a game and shut off the game as usualbut when my boyfriend went to play the game he said nothing was happening. the green light would come on but the screen would be dark, and if I placed it on the charger the charge light would come on for about 2 seconds and then cut off.. does anyone know what is wrong?? and how do I fix it??

have you modded your psp with this …if so theres 2 solutions, 1, your glue has come away and the mod has shifted or 2,you havent tightened the screw behind the home key enough so the analogue is reacting

I was trying to get dark_alex’s 2.71 SE-C to work, but I couldn’t use the files in the “NEWINSTALL” folder to work so I tried to install a program that would use the files in the “flasher for recovery” folder. As you can obviously tell I’ve got no idea whatsoever when it comes to firmware and homebrew and I ended up installing an OC Module and using some advice from a forum (that being the idiot I am can’t remember). In the end I’ve tried to install it and it wouldn’t work and turned itself off, so now every time i turn on the PSP the green light and back light turn on, but after 15 seconds it turns itself off. I can still access the recovery mode (holding ‘R’ when PSP is starting) but I have no idea what to do.
Please help me!!!

Dark_Alex’s firmware requires 1.50 boots to be loaded from msroot:\psp\game150\ folder
also in advanced options in recovery you will see kernel boot (2.71 or 1.5)
and you have bricked
you will need a UP mod to kick that sucker back to life

My up button on the d-pad seems to be locked, atleast, that is what the PSP thinks as it keeps moving everything up.
I have not modded or opened my psp, i just started encountering this problem while play Virtua Tennis (a game I have had forever)
It is really annoying. I thought it was a problem with the game, but it seems to be happening in the XMB area to.

get dark_alex’s 2.71SE-c zip file
it should contain a recovery folder
put this folder into your game folder and put a 1.5 firmware update eboot in there remembering to change the name of it to update.pbp first
then in recovery menu choose run program at \psp\game\recovery\eboot.pbp

It told me to take something out and it would let me cancel so i to the battery out so the psp would shut of and i could start the download again but wher i turned it on all i saw was the power button on but the screen was black and after 30 seconds the power button would turn off. sounds to me like your laser is busted or the motor that spins the UMD is busted….put your hand on the back and feel for vibrations when you load a disc…if you feel it spin then its the laser…if you dont..then its the motor.
check your firmware and see if it can downgraded (2.80 and under) if it can you can go to 1.50 which means you can get a devhook launcher mod which will let you load UMD iso’s through a USB cable..you can download the PSP games through any good torrent site, and i recommend only downloading games you own as this is called format shifting…not piracy

After i changed the lcd screen (it has crushed)the psp controls do not work right. they do not stay still in the center (the football player for example)and it’s just like i’m pressing in one direction. Does anyone know how to calibrate the center of the controls? thank you

its called pandoras battery and can fix all bricked PSP’s

2 Friends PSP’s
1 UK Pink PSP and its not powering on, power light flashes once and nothing happens.
1 JAP Black PSP with broken screen. (Unknown other issues)
As they want the working PSP to be Pink, I completely dismantled both PSP’s and rebuilt them.
Things found:
Power Issue is directly related to the main board.
What I now have is
1 Pink PSP with a mixture of bits, all powers up and screen is fine, but the right directional button does not work – I have tried both circuit boards for the directional buttons.
1 Black PSP with bad main board and broken screen.
Any help at getting the directional buttons working or the faulty main board working would be appreciated.

-downgrade your psp and install custom firmware-
You either have someone make a Pandora magic memory stick & have a Pandora Battery (self made service battery)*note* they also have to have a hacked (custom firmware like Dark Alex’s m33) psp to make these* & the 1.50 eboot, to downgrade your psp to 1.50 ofw (Original FirmWare).
I didn’t have any *friends* that had either of those. So this is what i done to unbrick/downgrade my psp. First off I bought a Datel Battery Tool (an already made Pandora battery basically) online. Google it, buy it. Then there is a program called Total Newbie Installer. Its a pretty large file…like i think it was almost 187mb’s. But it is a GUI program, emulates a hacked psp.
That program will make a pandora magic memory stick for you, just follow the instructions given when the program runs. That program already has the 1.50 eboot, and also has the Dark Alex’s 3.71m33 custom firmware included.
So all you’ll have to do is run the Total Newbie Installer (to make your memory stick a Pandora magic memory stick), after that is finished, take your battery out and place the Pandora or the Datel Battery Tool in, and follow the instructions ON THE PSP SCREEN. Another thing, when you buy the Datel Battery Tool, it isn’t charged to 100% out of the box, and it doesnt come with instructions. All you do with the Datel Battery tool is charge is and place it in the bricked psp along with the memory stick (you created with total newbie installer to unbrick/downgrade your psp) Also make sure the Pandora Battery or the Datel Battery is at least charged above 90%, most say at least 75%. But 90% is safe. All you do is place it in your already turned on psp, and charge it. when the indicator light turns green, it’s fully charged.
OPTIONS If you have a *BRICKED PSP*
Option A- find a friend with a pandora magic memory stick & a Pandora Battery.
Option B- Buy a Datel Battery Tool online or have someone make you a pandora battery (its cheaper to find someone that knows how to make a Pandora battery , but if you can’t find one you only option is buying an already made Battery tool), and have a friend with a computer & a WORKING! psp to make your memory stick a pandora magic memory stick using the program i explained above.
if option A and option B is too much for you……
Option C- take it to a technician and have them fix it for you for a price. Just be prepared to pay a lot of $$$ for this service.
This is where i learned how to fix my psp, and replace items. Here’s a Tutorial on taking apart your psp, from replacing the faceplate to the UMD/Laser assembly. Just reverse the Instructions to put the psp back together correctly.

with the screen not showing any visuals, but the sound is playing, when you took apart your psp, and removing the lcd screen, there is two harnesses, a large one, that is clipped the to motherboard, and a smaller one. The smaller harness isn’t plugged in correctly. It’ll pop out. Go to the tutorial site where i posted, and follow the instructions on how to remove the LCD, don’t worry about removing it completely, all you’re going to do is see how the harnesses are attached, as a visual reference. So you’ll know what i’m talking about.
Thats basically your problem, it’s not plugged in all the way.

hi….. mmmm does any one knows how i can fix my slim psp d pad…. i had an old psp n da same thing happened but it included da analog stick…. my slim psp is almost new …. i havE 8 months with it …. everything works perfectly except for da freaky d pad …. if i press any button of da d pad it starts going up and down real fast. … i feel frustrated …. my psp right know i feel is worth less cuz i cant do anything…. pleazze i need tips or help…
