Fake v2.60 Update Crack

Today, a rumor about a hacked (or “recompiled”) version of the v2.60 PSP update file is floating around. The author [ttp://www.angelfire.com/blog/psp/] claims that he has tested it himself and it works – loads homebrews while having all the official functions of v2.60.
I then downloaded the so-called crack from the site and ran some checks:
1, CRC code. This file has the same CRC code with the Japanese v2.60 update file.
2, MD5 Hash. 2 files kept consistent (MD5: A69A022FCE43B614A8CB305786F59855).
OK, if MD5 codes are the same, there is no chance that this file is different from the real system update.
So now you are warned, don’t trust this “crack”, don’t try to run it like me (cuz I know what I am doing), or even update using it. Otherwise, you will be updated to 2.60 officially, and have to say farewell to homebrews.
Here we blame these drama/fake makers. Stop trying to hurt us with lies/videos/pictures/random tries. Leave us a clean scene.

As with anything firmware related, I also suggest waiting a few days to see what happens with it and this is a prime example of why.

I have a colleague who is will to swap his 2.1 PSP for my 2.6 PSP. Is there anyway I can use homebrews on a 2.1 version?

no, there isnt. if the version that he has is 2.1/2.01, and yours in 2.6, THEN SWAP IT. 2.6 psps will NEVER be cracked. 2.01 is going to be the first version that will be cracked next. and then 2.5.
the more updates there are, the fewer possible exploits there are available for hackers to try and use to downgrade the firmware. (each new version fixes these ‘bugs’).
if your mate is stupid enough to want a 2.6 psp, and not realise, then swap it straight away.
you can update a 2.1 psp to 2.6, but you cant reverse that. what would you rather have?
