Screen Protector Mass Review
Published by Dasme 3 years, 1 month ago in PSP, Reviews. Before embarking on this review, I need to lay out the facts. Every screen protector that was tested was used by me for a week long period. When applying each screen protector, I thoroughly cleaned the PSP surface to remove dust. I applied each screen protector with whatever tools that were given to me with the product only. I did not purchase any of the screen protectors, every one was kindly given to me for the purposes of this review.
Brando
Brando’s screen protectors are probably the most renowned of the other companies. I’m going to come out right now and say, this was NOT the best screen protector that I reviewed!
The Brando Ultra Clear Screen protector comes with 2 different pieces, which is different from all the other companies. This is a nice feature in the product, since it is only a few dollars more than other companies who only offer one. One piece covers the PSP screen, and around the d-pad, joypad, and the right buttons. The other piece covers only the screen.
The full PSP protector was very difficult to apply, even using the application card that comes with it. Other companies have similar styles of SP, and for some reason the Brando just took a lot longer to apply correctly. However, I did eventually get it on, and the first thing I noticed was this: it was already scratched. I know for a fact it wasn’t scratched out of the box, because I carefully checked each SP for this. All I can guess is it got scratched from the applicator that was sent with it! Now this product doesn’t advertise as being scratch-proof, but if it’s not, what’s the point of a cover? If you just get scratches on the cover, it’s almost the same as getting them on your screen. You still have to look at them.
The smaller protector that came with the package was very easy to apply, and will probably be the one you end up using. It doesn’t protect around the buttons, but that’s not as much of a concern as the screen. The clarity of the screens was perfect.
Overall, I give this SP a B+.
Martin Fields
I heard about this brand while lurking a few PSP forums, and decided to check it out. The company was kind enough to send me a sample all the way from Singapore! Was it worth the trip? Let’s see…
The screen we received was not a full cover, but the kind that covers the main part of the screen, and a little bit more on the left and right edges. The application was also difficult for this one, but mainly because it did not come with an applicator. This screen is completely see-through, and best of all, is scratch-resistant! The test case has been using this screen for over a month now, with no scratches whatsoever.
This is a fine screen protector, with it’s only disadvantages being: 1. It doesn’t come with an applicator. 2. It’s sometimes tough to push out remaining air bubbles after application.
I give the Martin Fields SP an A-.
JAVOedge
I have used 2 different versions of JAVOedge’s screen protector. Both the anti-glare and the clear screen protectors have performed incredibly well in both test cases.
The anti-glare screen was the easiest full-cover screen to apply out of all of them. I think it is due to the extra thickness of the cover that gives it it’s anti-glare feature. It is completely scratch resistant, and it really cuts down on glare. It is also completely scratch-proof and smudge resistant.
The main disadvantage of this screen is that it is not 100% see-through like the other clear screens. For me, the fact that it reduces glare is worth it. It really doesn’t distract from visuals at all, and you quickly get used to it.
This SP gets an A.
The JAVOedge clear screen is equally as impressive. It is the only full-cover PSP screen I received that is 100% clear, and 100% scratch proof! Not much more to say than that. It applied very easily with the included applicator, and it was easy to push out the air bubbles.
By far the best screen protector in this review. A+!
BoxWave
The BoxWave screen protector was quite a shock to me. I hadn’t really heard much about BoxWave, so I didn’t really know what to expect. They sent me their ClearTouch screen protector. This protector boasts anti-glare, anti-fingerprint, and anti scratch features. I tested the cover for all of these, and it works great in all areas!
I did a side-by-side comparison of this protector to the JAVOedge for clarity, and there is absolutely no difference. In fact, when comparing the anti-glare screens to the regular clear screens side-by-side, the difference in clarity is almost unnoticeable. I have heard nothing but complaints about anti-glare screens because they “distort the PSP’s crisp clear image.” This is simply untrue, and anyone can prove this by covering half the screen with an anti-glare screen protector, while leaving the other half unprotected.
Anyways, the only downside of BoxWaves’s screen protector is that the edges on the top and bottom of the screen stick out too far, and thus do not completely cling to the surface. A small problem, but it keeps this product from getting a plus sign added to it’s score!
This SP gets an A.
MadCatz
There’s not much to say about MadCatz sad attempt at a screen protector. You would be better off using cling wrap from your kitchen! I think these mainly come in multi-packs with other products. I made the mistake of buying one of these product packs for the screen protector, and what a waste it was! They don’t cling to the surface, they scratch instantly, they don’t protect from smudges or glare. If I have to give these a grade, I am gonna have to go with D. I didn’t give them an F, simply because I suppose it technically does protect your screen… it just looks crappy in the process!
So here’s the wrap up:
Best Full-Coverage Anti-Glare Screen Protector: JAVOScreen Anti-Glare with an A.
Best Partial-Coverage Anti-Glare Screen Protector: BoxWave ClearTouch with an A.
Best Full-Coverage Clear Screen Protector: JAVOScreen 2.0 with an A+.
Best Partial-Coverage Clear Screen Protector: Martin Fields Screen Protector with an A-.
I would like to thank all the companies who participated in this mass review. Thank for contributing your products to be analyzed and critiqued!

I’m curious to find out why you did not review the excellent Hori screen protector. I’d like to know how it compares to the products you have tested.
Simply because they did not answer my e-mail. There were about 3 other companies who did not respond to my prompt about the review. So the products that I did review were the ones who responded and sent me their product.
Fair enough. You can fairly judge products that you can’t get your hands on. Nice job on the comparison!
Awesome job! I was in the market for a SP and really didnt even know where to start. Thanks to your article, I have ordered the JavoEdge anti-glare screen! Thanks again for the time and effort put into this.
hrrmm .. so if i sent an email to martin fields for a sample of their product to compare with other existing psp screen protectors, would i get a free one ?
