Quick Hits - MLB Review

Quick hits – MLB Review

Welcome to the first edition of the “Quick Hits review. Where you can get game reviews for the PSP, in a fraction of the time. Lets get to it!

MLB is a very good game for many reasons. We’ll start with audio. Upon inserting the UMD in to my PSP I liked the soundtrack. The music is hip enough to stop you from rolling your eyes, yet not out of place or taking away from the game itself. I like just about all music genres, so people like myself will take advantage of this more than others.

Graphically the game is equally as beautiful. Although the crowds are as dull and cardboard like as any other sports game, the rest of the game shines. The motion of the players can’t be overlooked. From patting their glove before the toss, to the runner throwing up his arms on a close play at first base. One place that is lacking is strangely at home plate. Occasionally, you’ll notice clipping problems such as the catcher physically stepping through the batter to toss a practice throw to third after a strikeout.

Gameplay is not lacking in may ways either. From angling your swing, to throwing the hopper to first before the runner gets there, it’s all present. One aspect that I do not like is that the screen switches views after the batter hits the ball to allow you to see better for fielding. The way this is done can confuse the player and do the exact opposite due to way you are already holding your analog stick.

Replayability is not a tough choice. You’ll get addicted to this game quick based on it’s immersing sound & play-by-play commentary to the quick plays at home. You’ll be a third into the season before you even remember that there is Infrastructure & Ad-Hoc support. I can’t give a full review on the Infrastructure support due to other computers on my network causing lag. This huge amount of delay rendered batting impossible. Next time, I’ll alleviate that problem before attempting so suck up even more.

Graphics:
Gorgeous and colorful. Not much else to say.

Sound:
One could only hope to have a soundtrack as good as this one on all games, as well as inspiring and well captured environmental audio.
9.5
Gameplay:
Shy of the occasional player running the wrong way, I can’t see any other Baseball title competing with this gem.
8
Replayability:
As soon as this season with the Cardinals ends, I’ll check out Infrastructure mode.
8.5
Overall:
All in all, I think this is the best investment I’m made for my PSP yet. I don’t see this game being pushed off to the side until the next edition of MLB comes out to top this one.
8.5
